Adoption Ministry

Is Special Delivery an Adoption Agency?

No, Special Delivery is a ministry that facilitates independent open adoptions. We do not charge any fees to anyone for our services concerning adoption.  Our goal is to meet the needs of a pregnant woman (or couple) by assisting her in her wishes to adopt her child to a loving family.

What is Open Adoption?

Open adoption gives the birth parent(s) the option of choosing the adoptive family themselves rather then having a third party choose the family for them. All parties agree to share information with each other openly and agree to a set communication plan for a pre-determined length of time. The amount of “openness” in the relationship is discussed between all parties. They all decide on the amount of contact that is mutually comfortable. Each adoption plan is as individual as the people involved!

Why would a woman choose to place her child for adoption?

There are many reasons why a birth parent chooses adoption: a single mother may want her baby to have two stable parents, a couple may feel they're too young or don't have the financial resources to raise a child. Others need to complete their education or are in the midst of career difficulties. Every birthparent is unique so every reason is unique. The most important thing to remember is the sacrificial love that a birthmother has for her child as she puts her child’s needs above her own.

Can a birthmother be involved in choosing a family for her baby?

Yes! A birthmother can look through an array of family profiles and pick 2 or 3 families to interview. Once she has interviewed all of them, she may feel a connection to a particular family, and desire that this family parent her child! Once the family is selected, they can call each other on a regular basis, go to doctor appointments together, meet for dinner, etc. The important thing is they spend time getting to know each other before the birth of the baby.

What are Grandparents Rights?

Though there are no legal rights for grandparents in the state of Washington,  it’s not unusual for the grandparents to be involved in the adoption process with their daughter or son. Many grandparents feel similar emotions as their children and desire to be involved in the adoption.  Special Delivery knows this affects the entire family and we offer counseling on a case-by-case situation.

Special Delivery also offers a support group called the MOMS Group for Moms of Moms.  This group meets every Monday night at the Special Delivery house in Woodinville. Please call for more information: (425) 485-3582
